In
Corniglia
We
arrived!!
Upon
arrival to Corniglia Cathy used my cell to call Christiana. In about 3 minutes
she and her son Gabriel came to greet us at the bus stop. Greetings were
exchanged. Christiana said that she was the sole person at her deli and could
Gabriel show us to our rooms. Gabriel was eight years of age. He
was very friendly and polite. He stated that he wanted to move to the United
States. He did not like Corniglia. His ambition would be to move to Hollywood
and become an actor! He was excited to know we were from the United States. We
climbed many more steps before we reached our apartment. But, we finally did.
The
apartment was spacious and clean. Small kitchen, living, dining area, nice size
bath (shower only) and a bedroom with king bed. The couch also made out into a
king bed and a roll away was folded in the corner. We bid a thank you to
Gabriel and tipped him 4 euro.
We did
some unpacking then made our way back down
the hill to the center of town. We determined to eat our supper at Christiana’s
deli. It was a teeny tiny place. But the food looked fresh and appetizing. I
had a vegetarian bruschetta sandwich with lemon soda and Cathy the prosciutto.
It was
beginning to rain as we left the deli but we did not want to stay IN the teeny
place to eat, so we walked about looking for a place to sit. We ended up at the
bus stop, which is outside. It started to rain more seriously so we just pulled
our hoods up and munched on. Cathy did have her umbrella and opened it for the
few moments the rain was at its worst. After eating we made our way back to
some of the shops. Our first stop was Gelato!!! A nice, nice treat and
something we had been looking forward to for months!! At least I had. I had no
had gelato, I don’t think since I was in Italy in 2007.
After
our dessert, food for breakfast was the agenda. A little market provided us
with milk, bread, nutella, orange juice, wine, cheese and yogurt. We were set
at least for the next few hours. So, BACK up the hill we went to our apartment
for the night.
Groceries
put away, we continued to organize our belongings. First order of business was
to determine which of the electronic devices needed to be charged. Once we
figured that all out, we admitted we were dog tired. We relaxed and savored a
glass of wine, some cheese and bread while sitting on the balcony. We were able
to view the town and listen to the chatter of the people.
Time for
showers and bed, hoping for sweet dreams and peaceful slumbers.
